A baptism at St. Timothy's
At St. Timothy's we believe that in Holy Baptism a person (baby or adult) is fully initiated by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s Body, the Church. In this act God adopts us, making us members of the church and inheritors of the Kingdom of God (BCP, pp. 298, 858). In baptism we are made sharers in the new life of the Holy Spirit and the forgiveness of sins. Baptism is also the foundation for all one's future participation and ministry in the Church.
It has become our practice to reserve baptisms for special Feast Days in the church calendar called 'Baptismal Feasts', including:
- The Baptism of the Lord (mid January)
- Easter Vigil (Easter Eve)
- Pentecost (late May to early June)
- The Bishop's visitation (varies each year)
- All Saints Sunday (early November)
The accompanying video is an example of a baptism service at St. Timothy's and the step-by-step information below will help you arrange a baptism with us - either for yourself or a loved one.
Process for arranging a baptism
Step 1
Register your interest
We ask all people, church members and guests alike, to email the Church Office to inquire about a baptism.
Step 2
Select one of the Baptism Feasts
Step 3
Fill out and return form
Upon deciding a date, our Parish Administrator will send you a one-page form requesting information like candidate's full name, godparents/sponsors, and contact information.
Step 4
Attend a Baptism preparation class
Step 5
The Baptism day
We ask the candidate and their godparents/sponsors to arrive at least 30 minutes before the service begins in order to know what to do during the service.
During the service, we issue 2 baptism certificates, give a baptism candle as a gift, and invite you to stay and take pictures with family and guests.
